Das Robert Koch-Institut (RKI) ist als Bundesinstitut im Geschäftsbereich des BMG die zentrale Einrichtung des Bundes auf dem Gebiet der Krankheitsüberwachung und -prävention sowie der biomedizinischen Forschung. Kernaufgaben des RKI sind die Erkennung, Verhütung und Bekämpfung von Krankheiten, insbesondere der Infektionskrankheiten.
